IMF, WB assure further support for EFF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) have assured further support for Sri Lanka’s economic reform programme and the Extended Financial Facility (EFF).

According to the Finance Ministry this assurance has been granted in the discussions held by the heads of these institutions with Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe, who is attending the annual conference of the IMF and WB held in Marrakesh, Morocco.

State Minister Semasinghe said that he and World Bank Executive Director Parameswaran Aiyer held discussions in which the programmes supporting Sri Lanka were discussed. Semasinghe expressed his  gratitude for the support provided by the WB to the economic recovery of the country and the successful implementation of the reforms.

State Minister Semasinghe met IMF Executive Director K.Subramanian to discuss the progress of the economic reform programme and the current economic condition including the challenges ahead of the Sri Lankan economy.

Semasinghe said that the 2023 annual meeting of the IMF and WB had started in Morocco and the government hoped to meet all its partners this week to strengthen economic stability and achieve sustainable economic growth.

Central Bank Governor Dr.Nandalal Weerasinghe, Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena and other officials are participating in the conference held in Marrakech, Morocco until October 15.
