Inter-School Competitions to mark Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

Zahira College Colombo Islamic Society had organised All Island Interschool Meelad un Nabi Competition and prize giving ceremony in various subjects such as Quirath, Essay, Calligraphy, Quiz, Qaseeda, Debate, Oratory and Multi Media Presentation to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday and there were around 1,045 competitors from 55 schools which participated.

It was held under the patronage of the Principal of the College Trizviiy Marikkar and President of the Society Mohamed Shihab delivered the welcome address.

The chief guest of the event Ministry of Education Muslim Schools Development Branch Director of Education Major N. T. Nasumutheen said that Muslim Schools should encourage children’s education and increase their achievements. We Muslims can speak three languages that good advantages for us to learn education in any language. He also said that Zahira College is a father of Muslim Schools in the island and he also remembered the great leaders Orabi Pasha, Siddi Lebbe, Wappichchi Marikkar, I.L.M. Abdul Azeez and Abdul Gaffoor who uplifted the Muslim Community’s Education. Further he praised the late great leader Dr. T. B. Jayah who requested to declare the holiday on Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

Principal Trizviiy Marikkar, Board of Governors Chairman Fowzul Hameed and guest speaker Senior Staff of the Zahira College Ash Sheik Abdul Haleem also addressed the gathering.

Muslim Ladies’ College emerged as the overall champions of the event and President of the Muslim Majlis Hamdha Musawwir and the award winners received the champion shield from chief guest Ministry of Education Muslim Schools Development Branch Director of Education Major N.T. Nasumutheen.

Students from Zahira College, Muslim Ladies’ College, Queensway International School and Al Mubarak National School, Malwana presented various cultural events at this ceremony.

Deputy Principal (Administration) Mohamed Shazuli, Vice Principal Co-Curricular Activities Zeenath Ismail, Prefects of Discipline Muhiseen Ariff, Board of Governors Secretary Alavi Mukthar, Board of Governors Religious Committee Chairman Moulavi M.T.A. Ariff, Old Boys Association President Mohamed Shiraz, Islamic Society master in charge Inham Ismail, Sectional Heads, teachers, teacher in charge of invited schools, parents and students were present.

Vice President of the Islamic Society Muhammad Ayoob proposed the vote of thanks.
