KMC officer probed over Rs.5.1 Mn misuse

A special investigation has been initiated on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ishan Wijethilaka regarding an incident in which a senior official of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) Finance Department had misused Rs.5.1 million received by the Municipal Council for a personal matter without crediting it in the MC’s official account.

An investigation has revealed that this female officer had used this money to make payments for a family wedding ceremony.

After checking the accounts and files related to the money received as payments to the Municipal Council last week, it was found that there was a deficit of Rs.5.1 million and an investigation had been initiated.

It is reported that a group of senior officials of the Council tried to suppress the incident by handing over the related money, but the Municipal Commissioner has begun a probe in this regard and inform the Central Provincial Chief Secretary as well.
