Phone records of Eheliyagoda OIC show suicide intent

Police information revealed that the reason why Eheliyagoda Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Priyankara Silva committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his duty firearm has been revealed by perusing his mobile phone records.

Police sources revealed that several messages sent by the OIC through WhatsApp stating he intends to kill himself were found on his phone.

Suspicion has also been raised that the OIC was in contact with someone else through a video call when he committed suicide.

A senior Police officer said that the phone will be sent for an examination to confirm it. Investigations have also revealed that this police inspector often called someone through WhatsApp and that he has sent messages to that WhatsApp number that he is going to commit suicide.

Investigations have revealed that such calls were made to a male or female person, a family member of a gem-related business owner.

On the night of October 20, the OIC had taken his duty firearm along with five rounds of ammunition.

Four of those rounds of ammunition were found lying at the place where he was shot. Only one bullet had entered his body.

Suspicion has also arisen among some Police officers that this officer mistakenly shot himself while holding the firearm to his head, pretending that he would kill himself.
