Sri Lankan rowers secure final spot

Sri Lankan rowers Mahesh Jayakody and Dr. Samitha Samanmali have earned their places in the finals of the Single Scull Rowing event on the fourth day of the fourth Asian Para Games, took place in Hangzhou, China on Thursday.

In the Men’s Single Scull category, Mahesh Priyamal Jayakody displayed outstanding performance to secure a spot in the finals. Dr. Samitha Samanmali also demonstrated her skills in the Women’s Single Scull, earning her place in the finals, which promises to be a thrilling final showdown scheduled for Saturday.

In addition to rowing, Sri Lanka participated in the swimming events, particularly in the 100m Freestyle S9 category. Galina Basnayake, after an intense competition, finished fourth in the 100m Freestyle final. Colonel Deepal Herath, the President of the Sri Lanka Paralympic Committee and Chef de Mission, shared, “Today, there were no athletics events, as it was a rest day for our athletes. We have high hopes for our athletes on Friday, which marks the fifth day of the games. We expect to bring home more medals.”

Meanwhile, in the overall medal tally, Sri Lanka, which had secured six medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze) by the end of the third day, saw a shift to the 18th position on Thursday. China currently leads the medal table with a remarkable total of 392 medals, consisting of 156 gold, 128 silver, and 108 bronze.
