Suspect grabs cop’s pistol, but it fails to fire

According to Police sources, a person had grabbed the pistol of a Police sergeant of the Panadura South Police, who was engaged in night mobile patrol, and had tried to shoot him, but the weapon had failed to fire.

At that time, the officers who acted immediately worked hard to subdue the suspect and arrest him.

During the search of the suspect, a live grenade and a manna knife were found in his possession and taken into Police custody.

A sergeant and two constables of the Panadura South Police were on mobile patrol on Sunday (29) and when they saw a suspicious person waiting near the Sathosa outlet in Panadura they had stopped the jeep to inquire.

As soon as they started questioning the person, he had grabbed the pistol of sergeant that was in the pistol holder and fired it at him, but luckily it did not go off, a senior police officer said.

The senior Police officer added that after the suspect was brought to the Police Station, it was revealed that he was involved in many crimes in Moratuwa and other Police stations.

The suspect is to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
