The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) emerged victorious in both the Men’s and Women’s National Water Polo Championships organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) at the Sri Lanka Air Force Swimming Pool Complex in Ratmalana on October 29 and 30.
The SLAF Men’s team, featuring national players LK Udayantha, Sumith Kumara, MI Karunaratne, IO de Silva, and Yan Bandara, triumphed in the finals against the Royal College Union Aquatic Club (RCUAC) with a score of 15-8, claiming the men’s overall national championship title.
Meanwhile, the SLAF Women’s team, comprising national players Sandu Savindi, KDA de Silva, and KK Dassanayake, secured the overall national championship by scoring the highest number of goals, winning against the Ladies’ College Old Girls Association with a score of 23-20. The Visakha Vidyalaya Old Girls’ Association grabbed the third-place with 19 points.
In the men’s category, nine teams competed for supremacy, including SLAF, OTSC ‘A’ and ‘B’, RCUAC ‘A’ and ‘B’, Starfish Aquatic Club, Nalanda College Aquatic Club, Sri Lanka Police Sports Club, and Sri Lanka Army Aquatic Club.
The women’s segment witnessed fierce competition among four teams: Sri Lanka Air Force, Ladies’ College Old Girls Association, Visakha Vidyalaya Old Girls’ Association, and Old Thomians Swimming Club (OTSC).
