A New Chapter for Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit at J’pura University

The foundation stone laying ceremony marked the beginning of a New Chapter for the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

It was a momentous occasion, when the University of Sri Jayewardenepura held the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the new building of the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit (AICBU) on November 01, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

The event marked a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to advancing research and treatment in the field of allergy and immunology.

The AICBU is dedicated to the research on of allergic diseases, infectious diseases while also contributing to the national need by maintaining one of the main allergy clinics that is run by a State institution for the whole island. With a growing demand for research and treatment in these areas, the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility has become essential to meet the evolving needs of both researchers and patients, the University in a media statement said.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman University Grants Commission (UGC), and other officials from the UGC, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, project manager Leading University Project for International Cooperation between SKKU and USJ, along with Prof. M.M. Pathmalal, Vice Chancellor, USJP and the distinguished academic and non-academic members of the University.
