Minister warns Police OICs to act swiftly against underworld

0 4

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles told OICs and Division heads and DIGs will be held accountable for all crimes and underworld activities that occur within their Police jurisdictions.

The Minister has stated that two motorcycle riders wearing black coats and full face helmets deployed as decoys went through the Galduwa Junction roadblock in the Southern Province, three times to check on the roadblocks, but none had stopped and checked them.

He said this while addressing a meeting between Southern Province Senior Police Officers and Police Station Commanders in Unawatuna on Friday (3). Addressing the meeting, the Minister said:”I have done all the things that I can do for Police officers. By talking to the President, we were able to get the vehicles for Policemen and increase their Batta. But I kept saying that when I do things like this, I expect you all to do your job properly. I don’t need to talk about the current situation in this country. But unfortunately, I have not received the results as expected,”he said.

“I did not sleep for two days after we took ‘Harak Kata’ and ‘Salindu’. From the time I found out this situation, Madagascar’s Public Defence Minister was in talks with me morning, noon, and night over the phone. If we all work together like this, it is not that difficult to get rid of this menace”.

Criminals spend as much money as they can to survive. When ‘Harak Kata’ was taken to Sri Lanka, they tried to give me Rs.700 million to send him back to Dubai instead of Sri Lanka. The President also knows about this. These people are already paying a lot of money. But never surrender to those things. No one can live happily with that kind of money”.

The person who tried to give me that offer didn’t get to go further and was killed in a place in the Southern Province. Now these people will give millions to our big bosses to remove me from this Ministry. That’s how much they discuss. Now Harak Kata’s wife tells ‘Harak Kata’ that if she gives a call, all this can be cancelled now, the only problem is this Minister Tiran Alles. I know some Police officers are connected with the underworld. They are talking to people of the underworld through the phone. I tell them to stop this relationship immediately. Stop them because those officers have no mercy. We have to protect the integrity of our official dress and act on it. I continue to tell Police officers about this,”the Minister said .

“Think that this is being done for our children and country. Think about your child and we will remove these drugs and the underworld for his future. Take action without fear of taking the best action there is,”he said. SDIG Deshbandu Tennekoon said a network has now been formed. We have now established how all OICs are in this network. How to exchange information I think will help. For the rest of the work, we all work together and our only goal is to stop the drugs and to stop the underworld. The Minister also said that everyone should work together.

Public Security Ministry Secretary Viyani Gunathilaka, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Western Province Deshbandu Tennakoon, Southern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General Sanjeeva Medawatte, Special Task Force Commandant, Senior Deputy Inspector General Waruna Jayasundara and officers of the Southern Province participated.
