Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told Parliament yesterday that five liquor manufacturers have to pay Rs. 2,715 million as tax arrears to the Government. The State Minister further said that the total tax default with the three percent penalty for default is Rs. 6,721 million.

He said that the licences of four liquor manufacturing companies have already been suspended due to their failure to pay tax arrears and only one company has entered into legal proceedings, so the relevant licence has been extended until November 13, which is the next court date.

State Minister Siyambalapitiya stated this while replying to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. Siyambalapitiya further said that the outstanding taxes cannot be collected by closing these companies and they have been given time till December 29 to pay their tax arrears.

Their licences will not be extended and legal action will be taken after that.

According to the State Minister, Sri Lanka has collected Rs.107.1 billion in advance personal income tax within the first nine months of this year surpassing the expected target of Rs.100 billion.

He said it is predicted that Rs.150 billion can be achieved in the next three months in personal income tax.
