Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered yesterday (8) to suspend the payment of insurance covers of two local private insurance companies belonging to Dinesh Schaffter, who was a Director of Janashakti Group, for one week.
The Magistrate issued this order to heads of the two insurance companies, ‘Fairfirst’ and ‘Janashakthi’.
The Magistrate issued this order after considering a motion submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department to suspend the payment of the insurance, stating that if the party receiving the insurance compensation was a third party other than the deceased’s wife or children, it would be a cause for suspicion.
Presenting the motion, the Criminal Investigation Department further reported to the court stating there is information that Schaffter, who was murdered, has obtained life insurance from foreign insurance companies in addition to local insurance companies.
The panel of lawyers representing the deceased’s father Chandra Schaffter, objected to the request of the Criminal Investigation Department.
