Dimuth among ICC’s four nominees for Test Cricketer of the Year award

Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has been nominated for the Cricketer of the Year award, the most prestigious award at the International Cricket Council’s annual awards ceremony. Four of the best cricketers in the world have been nominated for this and ICC officially released these nominees names yesterday .

The Sri Lankan Test skipper again led the charge for his side in the longest format. He showcased what a brilliant all-condition player he is and cemented his case for being the best opener in Test cricket right now. He has scored 902 runs in 7 matches at an average of 69.38 with 4 centuries.

Karunaratner scored a brilliant century in Johannesburg against South Africa, two centuries against Bangladesh in two matches in Pallekele, including a double ton, and a brilliant century against West Indies in Galle were some of the highlights from a superb year for Karunaratne. England skipper Joe Root who has scored 1708 runs in 15 matches with six centuries, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who has taken 52 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 16.23 and 337 runs at 28.08 with one century and New Zealand paceman Kyle Jamieson who has taken 27 wickets in 5 matches at 17.512 average and 105 runs at 17.50 are the other three contenders with Karunaratne for this major award .

Every year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) holds an awards ceremony to select the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year, ODI Player of the Year, Twenty20 Player of the Year and Emerging Player of the Year.
