The Colombo High Court yesterday ordered the acquittal and release of three LTTE members who had been arrested and remanded in connection with the bombing of the convoy of the Pakistani High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, in Colombo, in 2006.
The order was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Mahesh Weeraman.
Following a lengthy trial, the Colombo High Court Judge observed that the prosecution was unable to prove the charges without reasonable doubt against the accused.
Considering the evidence during the trial, the Colombo High Court ordered the acquittal and the release of the accused.
President’s Counsel K.V. Thavarasa appearing for the defence informed the court that the accused were remanded for around 14 years over this case.
The Attorney General had filed an indictment under 25 counts against the accused in the Colombo High Court under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The case was filed against Yogaraja Nirojan alias ‘Star’, Subramanium Surendra Raja alias ‘Karan’ and Kanagarathnam Adithyan for allegedly attempting to assassinate then Pakistani High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Bashir Wali Mohammad on August 14, 2006, in Colombo.
