Prasad Silva of Emjay International (Pvt)Ltd and Bimandee Bandara of Hillwood College Kandy once again came to the highlight as they won open men’s and women’s Championships at the Mahipala Herath Challenge trophy Table Tennis tournament concluded recently at Kegalle.
It was a superb performance by former Vidyartha paddler to take the title.
Infact Prasad who recently toured several countries to get international exposure was in good form to win the men’s final after winning both men’s singles and doubles titles at Mercantile TT championship held in last October .
Prasad said to “Daily News” he is in good form with winning several local tournaments while this Mahipala Herath Challenge trophy tournament is also an open ranking tournament and it helps to keep his ranking as number one in men’s section.
Meanwhile the young Bimandee Bandara still 19 years from Hillwood won women’s title as well as girls under 19 title after a good fight from the beginning of this tournament.
Bimandee is the most promising girls paddler still in her school carrer but she used to play open women’s category to give good fight against experienced women’s paddlers.
Meanwhile young Dewmith Weerasena of Lyceum International Nugegoda also excelled at this Mahipala Herath Challenge trophy tournament winning both under 15 runners up and under 17 quarter finalists.
The State Minister Kanaka Herath who was the former President of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka ( TTASL) was the chief guest and gave away the awards in this tournament which successfully organised by Kegalle District Table Association collaboration of TTASL.
