Nine remanded over attack on Police in Kompannaveediya

Nine suspects, including three women, were arrested at 57 Watte, Kompannaveediya, on the charge that they had attacked two police officers of the Colombo South Crimes Division with sticks and by kicking them, when they had gone to arrest two suspects residing at 57 Watte, Kompannaveediya, and poured petrol on them and tried to set them on fire and kill them.

FortMagistrate Thilina Gamage ordered yesterday (17), that these persons be remanded till November 27. The Magistrate ordered that all the suspects be presented to court for the identification process in the coming days.

Udawattage Ramya Malkanthi, Weragoda Arachchige Dhammika, Dhanushka Lakmal, Hewa Sahabanduge Pavitra Gangani, Doragoda Kankanamlage Wimalaratne, Udawatta Sanjeeva Sarath Kumara and Edirisinghe Suresh were ordered to be remanded in custody.

The Colombo South Crimes Division informed court that these persons had been members of an illegal mob, and aided and abetted the escape of two suspects and tried to kill two Police officers by throwing petrol on them and setting them on fire in order to kill them.
