The Department of Irrigation has issued an ‘Amber’ flood warnings for the Maha Oya Basin.
According to the warning, “A considerable rainfall has been occurred in some of Upstream and Middle reach catchment areas of Maha Oya Basin as of 8.00 PM today. By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Maha Oya, there is a possibility of occurring a flood situation in lowline areas of Maha Oya valley situated in Alawwa, Diwulapitiya, Meerigama, Pannala, Wennappuwa, Negambo, Katana and Dankotuwa D/S Divisions.”
While issuing the flood warning, Irrigation (Hydrology) Director S.P.C. Sugeeshwara said people and motorists are requested to pay high attention to these warnings.
