Main suspect in organised crime gang arrested

Wanted for series of car, motorcycle thefts

Twenty one cases, six warrants pending in Courts

Western Province South Crime Division said that they have arrested the main suspect of an organized crime gang who stole three cars and six motorcycles worth over Rs.10 million from 10 Police areas. Police said that this suspect had 21 pending cases against him in several courts regarding thefts and he also had six warrants.

Police took custody of several items including a machine used for cutting clothes, two printers, a metal cutting machine, two photocopy machines, a laptop, four wire rolls, four smart phones, foreign currencies, old rupees, and some brass items from suspect’s home. Police took custody of a car and two motorcycles stolen from Kithulwatte, Alubomulla and Borella areas.

According to Police this suspect is heavily addicted to the ICE drug and he was released from remand earlier this year. Police said that 31 crimes done by this gang have been reported to Police. Police also said that these suspects used the stolen money to buy drugs.

A special Police team has been deployed to arrest the other suspects related to the organized gang.
