Man arrested over Rs. 80 Mn gem fraud

The Special Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a retired Fisheries Inspector in connection with a financial fraud of around Rs.80 million rupees.

The Criminal Investigation Department said the fraud is related to the purchase of 10 gemstones.

The arrested suspect is a resident of Meethotamulla aged 78.

The arrest was made according to a complaint made by a gem trader to the Criminal Investigation Department.
