Drugs worth Rs. 67 Mn found in parcel, officer arrested

Customs officers confiscated a parcel containing 511 grams of cocaine and 5,161 grams of marijuana worth Rs.67 million yesterday (21),Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda said.

The stock of drugs were stored in cans containing food items.

This parcel was sent to Sri Lanka from the United States through Trico International to a woman who resides in Gampaha.Arukgoda also said that along with the stock of drugs, they also arrested a 46-year-old person who came to collect the parcel with written consent from the woman.

According to the information uncovered from the arrested suspect, Customs officers arrested an Assistant Customs Superintendent (ASC) attached to Trico International on suspicion.

The suspect and the arrested items are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
