Azmir Fajudeen will lead the Havelocks Sports Club rugby team at the upcoming Inter Club Rugby season which is to kick off from first week of December.
One of the finest products of Royal College Colombo who has donned the Havelock jersey for over five years, Azmir Thajudeen has been nominated to lead the Park Club rugby team at the XV-a-side Tournamnet conducted by Sri lanka Rugby (SLR), scheduled to commence early next month. Thajudeen who lock horns as a forward player in the ‘Pack’ after leaving school in 2017 had played a pivotal role in Havelocks under their former coach Sanath Martis who quit his job serving several years while guiding them to reach great heights even under tough circumstances.Thajudeen has been a loyal player to his club since he joined them in 2017 had played until the last season. However, this season, he will be under the watchful eyes of Saliya Kumara who has taken over the coaching. Saliya a former national player and later was in charge of the Sri lankan Ladies national team, completed a memorable season with Navy Sports Club last year. He was instrumental in tranforming them to create several surprises defeating some of the top teams in fray.
According to the club sources 95 % of last season players have shown their loyalty to remain with them which will make them a major force to reckon with. Meanwhile, there are a few new faces included to their pool, especially the school’s leavers. They are from Isipathana, St.Peter’s, D.S. Senanayake and some other schools. Sudesh Jayawickreme the most outstanding player from St.Peter College and Jayathu Rajaratna the DSS last year’s skipper are some of the pick of the players who will don the Park Club jersey this season. As per the club sources they are to spring some surprises with the beginning of the season.
Saliya Kumara will have another tough assignment with the Park Club where the expectations are high. Nevertheless, he is a person who likes to take challenges and give his best producing results. Hevelocks will play their curtain raiser against Air Force on 1st of December at home under light commencing from 6.30 p.m.onwards.
