Over 1,000 leprosy patients identified

According to the Leprosy Control Unit, nearly 1,300 leprosy patients have been identified from different parts of the country since January. Dr. Prasad Ranaweera, director of the unit, said that 1,256 patients had been reported by October. The highest number of patients has been reported from Colombo and the number is 256.

Also 138 patients from Gampaha district, 130 patients from Batticaloa district and 92 patients from Kalutara district have been identified.

There are 131 child leprosy patients under 14 years of age among the identified patients.
