New Sports Minister hopes to get cricket suspension lifted

New Sports Minister Harin Fernando is hoping to get the Sri Lanka Cricket suspension by ICC lifted and his vision is to develop all sports when he met Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry senior officials to discuss future activities at the Hotel School at Kollupitiya.

According to a senior official of the Sports Ministry .. Minister Fernando pointed out that he has to do it very carefully and closely work with special committee headed by Foreign Minister Ali Sabri . Once the judgement is delivered in the ongoing court case he hopes to invite the ICC to probe the allegations made against the SLC and explore the possibility of getting back the hosting rights of the ICC Under 19 world Cup which was shifted to South Africa Sports Ministry Secretary K. Mahesan , Sports Director General Dr Shemal Fernando and Sports Director R.B Wickramasinghe were present on this occasion .

Harin Fernando is the 20th Sports Minister of Sri Lanka while earlier one year period from (20th December 2018 to 15th November 2019) held the same portfolio as the country’s 16 th Sports Minister . The former St Joseph’s Colombo rugby player Harin Fernando is always very keen to promote sports.

I wanted to meet all stakeholders of sports tomorrow and Sports Body officials very soon and discuss their issues and to study them very carefully said Sports Minister at his speech yesterday .

Cricket is not the only sport as Sports Minister he has to work closely with all sports bodies and already given instructions to appoint new National Sports Council and it’s new chairman as well as National Selection Committee.

However Minister has no intention to change selection committee or the Sport officials immediately and he has good experience in working earlier as sports Minister and everything will go on smoothly said a senior official of the Sports Ministry.

He hopes to accommodate State Minister Rohana Dissanayake at the Sports Ministry building after vacating his office at World Trade Centre giving him more responsibility

Meanwhile Sports Minister Harin Fernano who is also the Tourism and Lands Cabinet Minister has an idea to promote Tourism through Sports and he has good opportunity to do this in his capacity of Sports and Tourism Minister.
