Indigenous Medicine Promotion Minister Sisira Jayakody said in Parliament yesterday (30) that efforts will be made to reduce the cost of health care by strengthening the local medical sector.

The Minister of State said this while joining the debate on the budget of the Ministry of Health.

For the first time, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a separate agency to protect the safety of traditional healers and the safety of indigenous medicine. It is also stated that the Ayurveda Corporation is modernizing and introducing new capsules for fever, cough and cold instead of new ‘kalka’ and ‘guli’.

The Minister said that the State Minister also said that new Ayurvedic centres based on local Ayurvedic methods called Wellness Centres will be started in the near future. He said that this is a massage centre prepared on correct Ayurvedic methods. For that, three NVQ level training will be provided and the State Minister will give opportunities to those involved in the tourism business to invest here.

He also pointed out that there is a tendency to travel for treatments containing nature and plant essences all over the world. Physical exercises and yoga exercises are being discussed in depth. He also said that due to resorting to local medical methods, it will be possible to solve the problems that the health sector has been facing for a long time.

He also pointed out that by strengthening local medical methods, solutions for high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney stones that have occurred in our country will be found. He said that many works were done to uplift the local medical field.

For the first time in history, we formulated the National Policy on Indigenous Medicine. It was possible to prepare a traditional medicine code by adding traditional medicine recipes and traditional medicine recipes. The Ayurvedic law code was drafted. For the first time in history, a national policy on indigenous medicine was established. For the first time in history, an Ayurvedic physician was appointed as the Ayurvedic Commissioner.

There are 1,050 Ayurvedic medical vacancies in Eastern Province alone. They will be recruited in the future. 500 traditional doctors were recruited by conducting written examinations.
