Grenade, ammo found in pile of soil

A hand grenade and 482 rounds of T-56 ammunition were found in a pile of soil brought to fill a ground by the officers of the Valachchenai camp of the Special Task Force. The bomb and the ammunition were found in a heap of soil that had been brought and piled up to prepare a ground near Vigneswaran Vidyalaya Road in the Ukkodaya area of Eravur Police division.

Police have identified where the soil was brought from and an investigation has been started.

Police believe that the stock of ammunition and the grenade may have been buried during the war period.
