“As the former Chairman of Selectors, I had to make many hard and unpopular decisions and I would like to reiterate that these decisions were made with the best interest of Sri Lanka Cricket in mind,” said outgoing Cricket Chief selector Pramodya Wickramasighe. He further added that he had to go through a challenging period during his tenure.
Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Wickramasinghe, who ended his tenure at the post last week has made his expressions via a statement sent to the media.
He also said as you are aware, the tenure of my Chairmanship of the National Cricket Selection Committee has come to a conclusion. It is no secret to the Cricketing fraternity that the last two and a half years for Sri Lanka Cricket has been a challenging one”.
“Regardless of these challenges, it is my belief that me and my fellow selectors have found several highly talented young cricketers who will be the future of the Sri Lankan cricket team. This current group of young cricketers will achieve great heights after gaining much valuable experience within the next two years,” Wickramasinghe added. Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Dilshan Madushanka, Dunith Wellalage are few potential cricketers who will gain more experience in future to establish their place in the Sri Lanka team.
As the outgoing Chairman, I wish the very best to the incoming Selection Committee and express confidence on them to take Sri Lanka Cricket forward.
