The Galle District Gymnastic Association and Friendship Gymnastic Association emerged victorious in the Girls and Boys Junior National Gymnastic Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Gymnastic Association. The event, held after five years, took place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on December 17 and 18.
The Galle District Gymnastic Association team secured the Girls Junior Championship with an impressive collection of 62 points, leaving the runners-up, Kugimia Minahiru Gymnastic Club, behind with 43 points. In the Boys Junior category, Friendship Gymnastic Club claimed the championship with 43 points, while both Royal Gymnastic Club and Galle District Gymnastic Association shared the runners-up position with 29 points each.
Kugumia Munahiru Gymnastic Club secured the Girls Junior Runners-up position.
After a five-year hiatus, the Junior Nationals saw the participation of nearly 800 budding gymnasts, representing 20 gymnastic clubs across the country, including players from Trincomalee and Batticaloa. The event’s success was overshadowed by the lack of sponsorship, and Gymnastic Association Secretary Udara Liyanwala emphasized the need for sponsors to support future national gymnastic tournaments.
