Sathasivam and Daluwatte lead in first round

Jevahn Sathasivam, the runner-up in the Sri Lanka Junior Stroke Play, played a flawless round on Day One, carding an impressive gross score of 69. As a result, he now holds the top spot in the Sri Lanka Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship, proudly sponsored by PRIMA, at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

Yannik Kumara secured the second position with a gross 74, while Jacob Norton, the Scanwell Junior Tournament Champion, claimed the third spot with a gross 75. However, Reshan Algama, who was expected to perform well, faced an unexpected challenge, finishing with a gross 83.

In the girls’ category, Kaya Daluwatte leads with a commendable gross score of 71. Aaliyah Laiza Achary from India holds the second position with a gross 81, and Sherin Balasooriya is in third place with a gross 82.

The Silver Division Boys witnessed Adhithya Weerasinghe leading the field with a gross 75, followed by Keshav Algama and Varun Fernando in second and third place with gross scores of 80 and 81, respectively. In the girls’ event, Keya Abhayaratne took the lead with a gross 94, demonstrating a strong performance.

The Bronze category, played over 14 holes, sees Lavidu Premaratne in the lead with a gross score of 60, closely followed by Avighna Unni from India with a score of 64. Udeera Bandara secures the third position with a gross 66.

In the girls’ segment of the Bronze category, Bhavinka Krishnan Unni from India leads with a gross 66, followed by Kaitlyn Jacob and Genuli Weerakoon with scores of 71 and 80.

The Copper division, played over 9 holes, is led by Revaan Amarasinghe with a gross 37. Vivaan Singh from India secures the second place with a score of 40, and Yuvan Rathis Kanth holds the third position with a gross 44. Aastha Rao from India leads the girls in this division with a gross 42, closely followed by Vihara Herath and Aashna Amagha with scores of 44 and 50.

Day 2 of the championship is set to commence at 8 am at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, promising a day of intense competition among the 112 players, with potential upsets in the mix.
