Jevahn Sathasivam continued to dominate the Gold Division leaderboard on the second day of the Sri Lanka Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread. Despite Reshan Algama’s impressive recovery with a spectacular gross score of 67, Sathasivam maintained his lead with a total of 140 in a thrilling turn of events at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday.
Reshan Algama faced unexpected challenges on day one, finishing with a gross 83. However, he made a remarkable comeback in the second round, playing flawlessly and carding an impressive 67.
This stellar performance secured him the fifth position with a total score of 150. Nevertheless, Jevahn Sathasivam, with a perfect gross score of 69 on day one, held onto the top spot with a second-round gross of 71 and a total of 140.
Yannik Kuamra secured the second position with the second-best gross score of 69 in the second round, totaling 143 strokes, just behind Jevahn Sathasivam. K Dhanushan also delivered a strong second round with a gross score of 68, securing the third place with a total of 144.
Jacob Norton, who had a gross score of 75 on day one, scored 72 in the second round. Both Norton and Dhanushan are tied for the third place with a total of 147.
In the girls Gold Division, the experienced Kaya Daluwatte claimed the top spot with a total of 144, featuring a gross score of 73. Daluwatte had finished day one with a score of 71.
Sherin Balasooriya scored 157 with rounds of 82 and 75, securing the second position, while Aaliyah Laiza Achary of India showcased a remarkable recovery with gross scores of 81 and 78, claiming the third spot.
Adhithya Weerasinghe continued his fabulous form with yet another good score of 71 to give himself a comprehensive lead in the Silver Division with a total score of 146 strokes (75 in the first round and 71 in the second).
Following closely were Keshav Algama with a score of 156 and Kaiyen Johnpillai with 158. Kaiyen Johnpillai improved remarkably well from his first day’s score to take third position at the end of day 2.
In the Silver Girls category, Keya Abhayaratne scored 191, while Aaradhi Samararathna scored 217.
Moving on to the Bronze Boys, Lavidhu Premaratne showed exceptional skills with a total of 119 strokes (60+59), leading the category. Udeera Bandara scored 133, and Yehansa Senanayake scored 134. In the Bronze Girls category, India’s Bhavika Krishnan Unni and Avighna S Unni both scored 124, while Genuli Weerakoon scored 165.
The Copper category witnessed outstanding performances. In the Boys section, Revaan Amarasinghe took the lead with a score of 71 (37+34), followed by Vivaan Single with 76 and Jaedan Sathasivam with 88.
Among the girls, India’s Astha P Rao led with 82, Vihara Herath scored 93, and Aashna Amogha of India scored 104.
Today marks the last day of the tournament starting at 8AM. The conclusion promises a grand finale, with the awards ceremony sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread commencing at 3:30 PM.
