Navy clears blockage beneath Kanaperiya Bridge in Yakkalamulla

The Navy sprang into action to clear a blockage under the Kanaperiya Bridge which is over Polathu Ganga in the Yakkalamulla area of Galle on Wednesday and Thursday (20 and 21).

Following heavy rains, tree remains and other debris, carried by raging waters of Polathu Ganga, collect under the Kanaperiya Bridge, hampering smooth flow of river water.

A team of Navy divers attached to the Southern Naval Command cleared the blockage under the Kanaperiya Bridge, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of water downstream. With the timely involvement of the Navy, a potential flood threat in the area was successfully averted.
