Sri Lankan students of Al Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, staged an exhibition showcasing their country’s heritage and culture to coincide with the World International Student Day recently.
Collaborating with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia, these students organised a special exhibition highlighting various aspects of Sri Lanka, including its economy, traditional cuisine, clothing and customs.
The presentation covered diverse topics, portraying Sri Lanka as a captivating tourist destination that beckons visitors worldwide, including Arabs in the Middle East. Described by Arabs as “Allah’s Paradise on Earth,” Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, encompassing seas, forests, and verdant farmlands, captivates all who visit. This allure contributes to a flourishing tourism industry, propelling significant economic growth in Sri Lanka, particularly fueled by Middle Eastern tourists, notably the Saudi Arabian populace.
To fortify the tourism sector further, Sri Lankan students showcased exhibits related to the country’s tourism industry, presenting videos that spotlighted the main attractions.
There was a display of products derived from coconut trees and tea, which are exported from Sri Lanka to various foreign nations.
Saudi Arabia is widely recognized for its provision of tuition-free scholarships to tens of thousands of international students across its universities. This commitment extends beyond mere financial support, encompassing benefits such as complimentary round-trip airfare, monthly stipends for living expenses, accommodation, medical coverage and graduation support throughout the entire academic journey.
Sri Lankan students have availed themselves of this opportunity, pursuing degrees in numerous Saudi Arabian universities, including Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Islamic University in Madina, Umm Qura University in Makkah, and others—all without incurring any fees. The global community highly appreciates Saudi Arabia’s commendable initiative in offering cost-free higher education.
