Smartwings Airline based in Budapest, Hungary and operating charter flights out of Budapest Ferihegy International Airport commenced direct charter flights to Colombo yesterday.
The charter operations from Budapest to Colombo will be operated every Wednesday until April 3, 2024. The first charter flight arrived at BIA yesterday with 183 passengers and the flight was welcomed by a celebratory water cannon salute upon arrival at BIA, organized by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited.
Passengers were warmly welcomed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance organized by Sri Lanka Tourism. Jagath Perera, Marketing Officer, Sri Lanka Tourism, handling Scandinavian and Baltic countries, Charith Nalaka, Deputy General Manager, Jetwing Travels, Sasidharan Kumarasamy, Assistant Manager, Hayleys Aviation and Projects, (The GSA for the airline in Sri Lanka) and Dr. Sumith de Silva, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited were present at the occasion.
