Shanmugam Kugathasan of Trincomalee has been elected as the General Secretary of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) at the Central Committee meeting of the party held at Jkap Beach Resort on Saturday (27).
The former President of the ITAK Mavai Senathiraja presided over the meeting where Senior Vice President C.V.K.

Sinagananam, Joint Treasurers G. Srinesan and Kanagasabapathy, Deputy Leaders K.V. Thavaraja, Charles Nirmalanathan, K. Kalaiyarasan, P. Ariyanenthiran, U. Sathiyalingam, Joint Secretaries Shanthi Sriskantharaja, Ranjani Kanagaraja, E. Saravanapavan, R. Sanakkiyan, S. Sivamohan and 13 members for the Central Committee attended.
Sevyor Kulanayagam of Jaffna, G. Srinesan of Batticaloa and S. Kugathasan of Trincomalee contested for the post of General Secretary.
The conference -2024 of the ITAK party scheduled for yesterday (28) has been postponed to be determined by the Central Committee meeting next week, said Jaffna District Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran.
