US to support SL overcome challenges in health sector – Ambassador Julie Chung

The US Government is looking forward to extend further assistance to support Sri Lanka to overcome challenges in the healthcare sector, said US Ambassador Julie Chung at the Health Ministry yesterday.

In this meeting, the current status of the health service in Sri Lanka and the support and grants provided by the US government for the development of the health sector in Sri Lanka were discussed at length.

Here, the Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that the Government has taken steps to implement many programmes and proposals to provide quality health services to the people by strengthening the free health services in the country.

He said that the Government has taken many steps to avoid the shortage of medicines, to strengthen the programme of purchasing medical equipment including medicines, immunization programme, new development activities as well as disease prevention activities.

He also said that he would like to thank the American people and the Government for their diplomatic support for the future progress of the health sector.

US Ambassador also evaluated the free health service in Sri Lanka, and the financial, technical and physical support they can provide to develop the healthcare sector.

Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala was also present at this event.
