Nursing staff attached to the Public Services United Nurses Union have decided to report to work from today (06) at hospitals across the country, wearing slippers and civilian clothes, instead of their uniforms as a mark of protest against authorities not agreeing to seven demands put forward by them.
The head of the union Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera said that the nursing staff will report for work at hospitals without wearing the official dress until their demands are met.
The Thera also said the nurses will not disrupt services to the patients in any way. The Thera further said the although the Health Minister promised to look into the seven requests made by the nursing staff before February 15, no action has been taken so far regarding them. This protest is based on seven demands including Rs. 20,000 allowance for nursing service, uniform allowance, increase of Rs. 10,000 allowance for nursing teachers in line with the increased DAT allowance for medical professionals.
