Cabinet Spokesman, Transport and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena today said that Rs 10 billion have been allocated for this year’s elections.
The minister said this while attending the cabinet media conference held at the Government Information Department.
The minister also said that this money has been allocated only for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be held in the year 2024. Also, through a special gazette, the amendments for the elections to be submitted by the Commission of Inquiry will not be effective for the elections to be held this year and the elections to be held in the year 2025.
The cabinet spokesman said that within the existing limited financial space of the government, the budget estimates for the year 2024 have allocated 10 billion rupees for conducting the election and the expenses related to the presidential election and the general election have to be managed within that provision.
