PM’s Secretary leads team of 14 senior officials on study tour in India

A team of 14 senior officials of Sri Lanka, led by the Prime Minister’s Secretary, are on a study tour in India to learn of the administrative activities that can be obtained from India in order to modernize the affairs of Sri Lanka’s government institutions and make them more public-friendly services.

The special feature of this is that during the visit of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to India in July last year, it was agreed during a discussion between him and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been implemented to assist Sri Lanka to streamline state services further.

Both the leaders expressed their agreement on an economic partnership vision to achieve prosperity through the promotion of relations between the two countries, Indo-Sri Lanka. The importance of promoting and strengthening connectivity in all dimensions, mainly people-to-people cooperation between the two countries was emphasized as the main factor contributing to this.

At a time when India has launched a massive programme to build the capacity of the civil services, the relevant institutions in Sri Lanka are expected to launch a capacity building programme in collaboration with several major Indian government institutions to carry out their tasks in a more innovative manner.

In accordance, under the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Secretary, Anura Dissanayake, the Secretary-Ministry of State Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Secretary-Ministry of Technology, Chairman- Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission, Director General-Sri Lanka Development Administration, Deputy A group of 14 high-ranking officials including officials from the Solicitor General – Attorney General’s Department, and the Executive Director – Board of Investment of Sri Lanka will participate in a programme held from 12 to 17 February 2024 at the National Centre for Good Governance in India by the Government of India, which had been prepared.

In participation, 12 government institutions from Sri Lanka are represented; digitalization exposure in core-functions, capacity development of newly recruited public servants, anti-corruption measures, mainly e-procurement, facilitating investment and Central Pricing Mechanism of Food, are some of the expected areas of discussions on the capacity development of related institutions. To understand the progress India has achieved through recent initiatives for qualitative transformation of the public service and the policy, institutional and operational improvements successfully implemented by relevant Indian government agencies to benefit the growth and to sustainably stabilize the economy.

While taking steps, it is the intention of this Sri Lankan official delegation to prioritize the capacity development of the government institutions that contribute to the economic growth approach of Sri Lanka and to identify the institutional collaborations that can be established with the relevant Indian institutions.
