Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Hospital to be upgraded

The Health Ministry is to take measures to upgrade Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Hospital in Bibile to an A Grade Hospital.

The decision has been taken following a request made by the Buddhist clergy, hospital staff and the residents of the area during Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana’s recent visit to the hospital.

According to a concept of the present Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, a special programme has been implemented by the Health Ministry to provide high quality patient-care service to the people by taking immediate measures to fulfill the shortcomings of the district level hospitals.

The Minister pointed out that Senaka Bibile Memorial Hospital is currently operating as a B-Grade primary hospital and measures will be taken to provide the necessary medical equipment and human resources to Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Hospital in Bibile and to the Monaragala District General Hospital as well.

He also said that the necessary funds will be provided to modernize the operating theatres and install modern medical equipment in the Monaragala District General Hospital.

Monaragala District General Hospital, which was started as a central dispensary in the year 1876 and currently has the capacity to provide inpatient treatment facilities to 578 patients. Outpatient departments and clinics provide health care to nearly a thousand people a day.

Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Hospital in Bibile was established in 1932, upgraded to District Hospital in 1942 and Primary Hospital in 2007 and it was named Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Primary Hospital in 2022. The inpatient bed capacity of the hospital is 267.

Musammil, State Minister Vijitha Berugoda, Monaragala District MP Kumarasiri Ratnayake, Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Uva Provincial Health Services Director J. C. M. Thennakone, Monaragala District General Hospital Director Dr. R. M. D. Rathnayake, Professor Senaka Bibile Primary Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Satish Kumar and a group of health professionals including specialists, doctors, nurses participated.
