The party that created anti-Indian sentiments has now befriended them – Minister
Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday said that those who sacrificed 60,000 lives for the anti-India movement in late 80s have changed position. “This party conducted five classes for its members and Indian expanionism is one of the subjects of a class.
However this party has stopped teaching anti-Indian dogma. They have finally become friends with India, he said. The Minister said this while joining the Smart Youth Programme of the Jayagamu Sri Lanka Program held in Moneragala.
“At a point of time our younger generation was misled by creating various stories. This party created massive opposition against India in the country and this result in the loss of 60,000 youths in our country.
The Minister said that various amendments like the Education ‘White Paper’ were brought to reform the education sector. “They incite people and brought them to streets against these moves. Those who were killed were educated individuals who were the best in the universities. We have the question whether they have found the world they were looking for, he said.
“The situation has changed today. The five classes used by the political forces to mislead the youth have been changed now. The opposition to India has been removed from the five classes. Finally, they have become friends with India. But 60,000 lives have been lost to the country.
