Legal ownership of Bataatha Agro-Technical Park  transferred to Department of Agriculture

After 14 years, the legal ownership of the Hungama Bataatha Agricultural Technical Park was transferred to the Department of Agriculture yesterday (03).

This park used to belong to the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Development Authority. The Ministry of Agriculture tried to get the right of this park on several occasions, but it could not be done. But according to the request of the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, and according to the discussions, the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority has taken steps to transfer the legal right of the Bataatha Agricultural Technical Park to the Department of Agriculture.

The relevant deed was handed over yesterday (03) by the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry to the Acting Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Samanthi Vasala. Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mr. Janaka Dharmakeerthi and others participated in that event.

The Minister who expressed his views advised the Department of Agriculture to take necessary steps to modernize the Bataatha Agricultural Technical Park into an International Agricultural Technical Park and an Agro-Tourism Center which will promote the agri-tourism industry and attract tourists.

The Minister also mentioned that steps will be taken to build the relevant facilities in this park to provide new agricultural technical knowledge to the local farmers and to train them.

The deed was handed over at the Bataatha AgriTech-24 Agricultural Exhibition Grounds.
