President of the All Ceylon Restaurant Owners’ Association (ACROA) Harshana Rukshan said that due to the reduction in the electricity tariffs, prices of restaurant food items, which were increased earlier, will also be reduced to the previous level effective from March 5 midnight. Due to the increase in production costs, prices of food items in restaurants were increased since last Saturday by the All Ceylon Restaurant Owners’ Association.
Accordingly, price of a cup of plain tea was increased by Rs.5 and a cup of milk tea by Rs.10, a rice and curry packet by Rs.25, fried rice and kottu by Rs.50 and short eats by Rs.10 each recently which adversely affected the food consumers tremendously as a result.
However, the ACROA said that due to the reduction in electricity charges, the prices of restaurant food items have been reduced to the previous amounts again from midnight yesterday (5).
Therefore, a cup of plain tea was reduced by Rs.5, a cup of milk tea reduced by Rs.10, price of a packet of rice and curry reduced by Rs.25, a packet of fried rice and kottu reduced by Rs.50 and price of short eats reduced by Rs.10 each since midnight yesterday, sold at all restaurants in the country.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has worked to reduce electricity tariffs by 21.9 percent effective from midnight on Monday (4) which led to the decision that was made by the ACROA to drop the recently increased prices of restaurant food items to its previous amounts.
