Export oriented F&B products sector shows significant growth

The contribution made to export income by food and beverage sector in January 2024 was dollar million 26 as against its contribution of dollar million 17 in 2023”, said Ministry of Industries Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara at the Profood, Propack & AgBiz 2024 exhibition launch organized by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association (SLFPA) together with Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services.

“The industries ministry with the Export Development Board (EDB), universities and other stakeholders are on a quest to support the government’s policy of strengthening an export oriented economy in the country. We have identified 20 potential export oriented sectors and given priority to the food and beverages sector since it is an emerging industry with great export potential.

“We invite exhibitors and investors from other countries to our trade fairs with a view to opening a corridor for our producers to entice investors and to benchmark with global standards to add value to our export oriented food and beverage products,” she added.

Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mahinda Amaraweera said, “Now we have over USD 4.5 billion worth of foreign Reserves in the country. The most important segment of industrialists in the country are the people who bring in foreign income and investments.”

Their contribution towards export income is significant. Our export oriented industrialists were in dire straits lately but they revived. Public and private partnerships add much value to this process. Innovations done by universities on food products are remarkable. Upcoming exhibition will have industry leaders, innovators and food science graduates. We will commit to facilitating knowledge exchange, showcasing technological innovations and strategic partnerships within the sector,” said the Profood, Propack & AgBiz 2024 organizing committee Chairman, Vasantha Chandrapala.

“Driving growth and sustainability within the Agri and Food sector is the pivotal role of this exhibition. The platform serves as a catalyst for professionals to explore cutting-edge technologies, showcasing innovations, processors and enhancing competitiveness on global scale.”

The exhibition offers numerous opportunities for SMEs to promote their products and explore potential collaborations with key stakeholders including foreign investors.

President elect of the SLFPA Thusith Wijesinghe said the 21st edition of the exhibition profood@saexhibitions.com is scheduled to be held from August 23-25 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition and Convention Center, BMICH. It will feature a wide range of products, services and innovations related to agriculture, processed food & beverage and packaging.
