Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Private Secretary Sugeeshwara Bandara yesterday said that the former President did not obtain the assistance of Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera to use the Bandaranaike International Airport. “There was no need at that point of time to obtain the support of Ven.Omalpe Sobitha Thera to use the airport,” he said. “If Gotabaya Rajapaksa needed to be worried, he would have been so, following a suicide threat by Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera when he appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister,” Bandara said. He was responding to comments made by Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera that the latter assisted former President to leave the country using the airport. Bandara added that the fear that Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera will be rejected in the nationalist camp is the reason for all these media shows.
