Thai Airways, the long-standing flight service between Thailand and Sri Lanka which was stalled during the COVID pandemic will be resumed after four years commencing from March 31.
The route will resume with daily flights connecting to more than 60 plus international destinations and additional domestic ones.
“We will be launching a daily flight using a narrow body aircraft and will soon add a wide body aircraft towards mid this year” said director sales Thai Airways Wit Kitchathor.
He also said that they have immediate connections to 60 plus local and global destinations and expect 60% of their traffic to use this facility.”
He also disclosed that Thai airways went through a lead period which resulted in downsizing their operations and also reducing staff by nearly 50% from 30,000 to 15,000. “However we have now made a turn around and have made a profit of over 14 billion Thai Baht last year.
“We also plan to increase our fleet by 30# in the next few years.
Managing Director MAC Holdings, the Ground Sales and Services Agent (GSA) for Thai Andre Fernando, said that the carrier did operate to Colombo during the COVID pandemic period by converting cargo flights to passenger and assisting in the transfer of much required fashion and medical industries supplies.”

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva presided over the ceremony to relaunch the event and said that the return of the stalled Thai Airline would help Tourism and help in rebuilding the collapsed economy.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabri, Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka Paitoon Mahapannaporn and a group of representatives of Thai Airways and senior management also participated in this event.
