Aswesuma benefit, arrears before New Year for beneficiaries in four districts

Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that all those who have not received the “Aswesuma” benefits so far in four districts will be given those benefits along with the outstanding amount before the Sinhala Hindu New Year.

Accordingly, those who have not received the Aswesuma benefits so far due to several problems in four districts of Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Polonnaruwa even though they are entitled to receive the 2,500 rupees allowance under the Aswesuma benefits, will be given those benefits before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year. The State Minister also explained that this problem was raised due to the fact that the quota for those districts was high as a large number with low marks were also included in the registers during the selection of beneficiaries in these districts.

However all these problems have been corrected now and steps have been taken to provide those benefits along with the arrears to all those who are entitled. After those payments, the Security Benefits Board will have to provide those benefits to almost all the Security Benefit holders without any issue, he added.
