The Railway Department has organised a number of programmes to mark 100 years since the British commenced the railway service in Sri Lanka, Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said.
A new train called ‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ will begin running from Colombo Fort to Badulla at 6.30 am today (5) and will operate every other day.
Secondly, a luxury tourist short-distance train named ‘Galaxo’ consisting of three carriages with wooden observation cabins without roofs will be running daily from Bandarawela to Demodara, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Railway service in Sri Lanka.
A commemorative stamp will also be issued this afternoon (5) at the Badulla Railway Station to commemorate the centenary celebrations. A cultural show will be held in Badulla town tonight.
