Speaker condoles on CC member and Sarvodaya founder Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne’s demise
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday expressed his condolence on the demise of member of the Constitutional Council (CC) and founder of the Sarvodaya Movement Dr A.T. Ariyaratne.
The Speaker on behalf of the Constitutional Council has expressed his condolences regarding the demise of Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, a member of the Constitutional Council and the founder of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, which is considered to be the largest and most widespread non-governmental organization in Sri Lanka.
The Speaker pointed out that Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne who served as one of the three civilian members of the Constitutional Council during 2015-2018, was an excellent leader who consistently stood up for social justice by fulfilling his responsibility more impartially. The Speaker also recalled that he raised his voice to maintain the supremacy of law based on democracy and justice by constantly expressing his opinion.
As a true philanthropist, Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne through the Sarvodaya Shramadana movement, which
has made it its mission “Create a poverty-free, no affluence, and a conflict-free society”, Dr A.T. Ariyaratne’s invincible mission to uplift thousands of families in Sri Lanka economically will always be immortalized in the history of this country, the Speaker emphasized.
