BASL rejects SJB MP’s request to facilitate SJB, NPP debate
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has unanimously decided not to facilitate the proposed debate between the leaders of the National People’s Power (NPP) and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) at this moment.
It has been decided at the BASL General Meeting held on Saturday (27). SJB MP Nalin Bandara on Friday (26) met the BASL and handed over a letter to them requesting the support to organize the said debate between SJB and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and NPP Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Accepting the letter, the BASL President Kaushalya Navaratne, PC informed that this request would be forwarded to the General Meeting for their final decision.
Accordingly, the BASL has taken this decision considering the fact that no Presidential Election has been called by this moment and the possible candidates are uncertain. Therefore, conducting a debate only between two aspirants is problematic at this juncture.
