Sri Lanka lost Dr. Nalin de Silva, a pioneer who took the lead in making a revolution of thought to save the country from the calamities, at a time the country is in need of his service, Ven.Elle Gunawansa Thera said.
He stated this during the religious event held at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) premises with the participation of hundred Buddhist Monks to bestow merits on late Dr. de Silva whose final rites were to be held in the USA, yesterday.
He said today many of the national resources are under threat and therefore the young politicians have a huge
responsibility to replace the service rendered to the nation by late Dr. de Silva.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on occasion said that late Dr. de Silva was a dedicated Buddhist leader who took every possible step to protect the Buddha Sasana and promote its meaning all around the world.
He empowered the nation whenever necessary and his sudden demise created a vacuum in the country at this moment, the Premier said.
As a respect to the late Dr. de Silva, his ashes will be brought to the country enabling the Sri Lankans to respect him, the Prime Minister further said.
Venerable Maha Sangha including Most Venerable Rajakiya Panditha Thrikunamalaye Ananda Thera, political leaders including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa, civil activists and the family members of late Dr. Nalin de Silva were also present on this occasion.
