Sri Lanka must take urgent steps to improve the logistics sector, opined the President-elect of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sri Lanka, Chandima Hulangamuwa at its 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo.
He said that Sri Lanka’s current Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranking is at 73 of 139 countries which is not satisfactory.
“Our neighbors, notably India, UAE, and Singapore have made remarkable strides in this regard, positioning themselves attractively for foreign investment,” he said.
“As advocates for progress, CILT Sri Lanka is steadfast in its commitment to providing comprehensive analysis to authorities, to elevate our LPI rankings, and establish Sri Lanka as a premier logistics hub,” President Hulangamuwa said.
“As custodians of the logistics and transportation sector, we understand the pivotal role it plays in bolstering the economy. Significant enhancements across aviation, maritime, rail, and land transportation are imperative for our nation to emerge as a formidable logistics hub,” he said.
Hulangamuwa pledged to collaborate closely with industry experts and governmental bodies, leveraging collective expertise to propel Sri Lanka towards its rightful place as a global logistics powerhouse.
In addition to Hulangamuwa, the new board comprises diverse expertise such as Henry De Silva, as VP of Membership Services, Prof. H. R. Pasindu as VP of Education, and Gayathri Karunanayake as the VP of Corporate Partners, Events, PR and Branding will guide CILT Sri Lanka toward its goals.
Rajith Ranasinghe was elected as Treasurer and Givantha Ariyaratne as the Secretary.
Sixteen Council Members were also elected.
The Council members are: H.A. Premaratne, John Vernon Nicholas de Rosairo, Anoma Ranasinghe, Vijitha Weerasinghe, Ibrahim Saleem, Chanaka Gunathilake, Danushka Jayasinghe, Dr. Priyangani Jayasundara, Prof. Renuka Herath, Hewa Gamage Nishan Arjuna, Chandana Perera, Pathma Kumara Warnakula, Dr. Varuna Viraj Adikariwattage, Nirmal De Fonseka, Dadallage Prabath Chandima, and Sagara Peiris.
