Three top Sri Lankan technical officials are expected to officiate the Badminton World Federation (BWF) tournaments and they have left last week for their assignments. The International Badminton Umpire Lakpriya Edirisinghe will officiate the India Open Badminton championship which already commenced yesterday and will continue until Jan. 16th in New Delhi.
Edirisinghe the most senior umpire is accredited with the BWF and has studied BAC Umpiring at the Badminton Asia Confederation. A former student of Asoka MV, Colombo, he has officiated in more than 100 international badminton tournaments, including Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and in three World Badminton Championships as an umpire and technical official. He has also officiated the Tokyo Paralympic Games which introduced Badminton. In addition, Edirisinghe officiated at the ElPozo BWF World Senior Championships 2021 held in Spain.
Meanwhile, two more officials Chaturanga Wishvanath and W.C Lakmal will officiate the BWF tournaments in India. Wishvanath the Badminton Asian Umpire will officiate at the Syed Modi International Badminton championships which are scheduled to be held from January 18th to 23 in Lucknow India while Lakmal who is also a Badminton Asia Umpire will officiate the Odhisha Open Badminton championship in Jawahar Lal Nehru Indoor Stadium from January 25 to 30.
